Describe the global world you originate from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is vital that you you. How about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and exactly how does it connect with the individual you may be?
1. A background is had by some students, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application will be incomplete without one. Then please share your story if this sounds like you.
2. The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an time or incident when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what do you study on the experience?
3. Think on a right time once you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted one to act? Could you make the same decision again?
4. Describe a nagging problem you’ve solved or an issue you’d love to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, regardless of the scale. Explain its significance for your requirements and what steps you took or could be taken fully to identify a remedy.
5. Discuss an event or accomplishment, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.
Last August, Susan Grant, chief nurse executive for Emory Healthcare, said this of Emory’s choice to treat patients with Ebola: “we could either let our actions be guided by misunderstandings, fear and self-interest, or pay to write my essay we can lead by knowledge, science and compassion. We are able to fear, or we could care.” Consider her concept of doing what exactly is when you look at the public interest despite potential cost. Please discuss an illustration that you experienced or even the full lifetime of another that is come to your attention.
Within the spirit of Emory’s tradition of courageous inquiry, what question would you like to help answer and why?
For example week at the end of January, Reed students upend the classroom that is traditional and teach classes about any topic they love, academic or otherwise. This week is called Paideia following the Greek term signifying “education” – the whole education of mind, body and spirit. What can you teach that would donate to the Reed community?
And even though she is only applying to four schools, Eva has too much to do: two essays for UW, two for the UC application, plus one for the App that is common the supplements for Reed and Emory. Many students may have fewer requirements to complete, but those who find themselves deciding on very selective schools or a number of schools on different applications may have as many or maybe more responses to write.
Since Eva’s first deadline is early decision for Emory, she’ll start by writing the normal App essay, and then work on the Emory supplement. (For the purposes for this post, we’ll focus on the Common App essay.)
